If you’ve mostly filed crypto under “volatile assets” and moved on, that’s understandable. But perpetual DEXs aren’t just another token narrative. They’re a serious attempt to rebuild one of the most profitable corners of modern finance: leveraged derivatives trading. And because derivatives sit at the heart of liquidity, hedging, and price discovery, changes here tend to ripple outward—into risk assets, volatility, and even how institutions think about execution.

The bigger picture

Perpetual DEXs are essentially competing to become the default venue for a high-velocity, high-margin form of trading. That matters because derivatives often lead spot, liquidity often leads price discovery, and market structure often determines who wins the next cycle.
